Reflecting on Stress Awareness Month

4/30/2026

In recognition of Stress Awareness Month in April, APCTC reflected on the importance of understanding stress, its impact on mental and physical health, and the tools available to manage it effectively. This nationwide campaign served as an important reminder to acknowledge how stress affects daily life and to explore intentional, healthy ways of coping. While stress is a natural response to challenges, ongoing or overwhelming stress can significantly impact overall wellbeing.

At APCTC, it remained a priority to ensure that staff, clients, and the broader community were supported in managing stress and maintaining both mental and physical health. Fostering a culture of wellbeing helped individuals feel more balanced, supported, and connected in their personal and professional lives.

As part of this reflection, staff were invited to share how they managed stress in their daily lives. Their responses highlighted a range of practical and personal strategies that supported resilience and wellbeing, including:

  • Taking short mindful breaks throughout the day to rest, breathe, and reset focus
  • Staying physically active through walking, stretching, or light movement
  • Connecting with coworkers through coffee breaks or casual conversations
  • Reaching out to trusted friends, family, or colleagues for emotional support and connection
  • Engaging in enjoyable activities such as watching movies or shows to unwind
  • Checking in with themselves regularly to recognize stress levels and needs for rest
  • Spending time with loved ones or pets for comfort and emotional grounding
  • Taking breaks from routine, including travel or changes in environment when possible
  • Seeking professional support when needed through available mental health resources
As APCTC moved into May, the reflections from Stress Awareness Month continued to serve as a reminder that small, consistent actions can make a meaningful difference. Managing stress is not about eliminating it entirely, but about learning how to navigate it in healthier, more sustainable ways over time.
